July 14: The Idolatry of Misplaced Love
Did you know that there is a time where God tells us NOT to love? This week, we will be looking at the danger of idolatry which results from loving the wrong things. I John 2 says, “Do not love the world or the things of the world.” This type of love is actually a rejection of God as God, and is a form of idolatry that is very destructive. Join us Sunday as we study God’s Word together.
Scripture Reading: I John 2:15-17 (ESV)
15 Do not love the world or the things in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him. 16 For all that is in the world—the desires of the flesh and the desires of the eyes and pride of life[a]—is not from the Father but is from the world. 17 And the world is passing away along with its desires, but whoever does the will of God abides forever.
Scripture Reading: I John 5:19-21 (ESV)
19 We know that we are from God, and the whole world lies in the power of the evil one. 20 And we know that the Son of God has come and has given us understanding, so that we may know him who is true; and we are in him who is true, in his Son Jesus Christ. He is the true God and eternal life.21 Little children, keep yourselves from idols.
