Why Proverbs (Again)?
All of us have to navigate the various challenges and situations of life. We need God’s wisdom to understand and respond correctly. The starting point for wisdom and knowledge is the fear of the Lord—to recognize how great God is and how small we are in comparison. The book of Proverbs provides us practical exercises in wisdom that help us practice wisdom and point us back to God our Creator. Last summer we studied together selected Proverbs to give us insight and set us on a course for life. As the series was concluding, it felt like there was still so much we could study in the book of Proverbs. I wanted to come back to it again this year for another summer series. We’ll look at twelve passages from Proverbs together, filling in some of the sections we skipped over in the first series as well as moving to new topics in chapters 12-15. If you weren’t with us for the series last summer, I would encourage you to check out the sermon podcasts, especially the introductory message on Proverbs 1:1-7. I trust we will be enriched again as we look at the practical wisdom from Proverbs that provides us a Course for Life.

Wisdom cries aloud in the street, in the markets she raises her voice; at the head of the noisy streets she cries out; at the entrance of the city gates she speaks: “How long, O simple ones, will you love being simple? How long will scoffers delight in their scoffing and fools hate knowledge? If you turn at my reproof, behold, I will pour out my spirit to you; I will make my words known to you.
