Modesto Ramirez, 87, of Dallas went home to be with the Lord Jesus on Saturday, May 18th, 2024 at Allied Services Hospice Meade Street, Wilkes-Barre. Modesto, a beloved husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, was a godly man whose legacy of faith in Jesus Christ impacted countless lives, most of all his family who loved him deeply and will miss him greatly.
Modesto was born in Caguas, Puerto Rico on September 2, 1936, to the late Modesto Ramirez, Sr. and Petra (Merced) Ramirez. Modesto grew up in Puerto Rico and came to Brooklyn, NY when he was 18 years old. He met his wife Ana in Brooklyn, she was the love of his life, they were married on April 4th, 1959, celebrating over 61 years of marriage together.
Modesto was a member of Fellowship Church in Dallas, PA for almost 30 years. He served the Lord and the church faithfully through serving as an elder of the church and serving for the last fifteen years as the deacon of ordinances overseeing the setup of communion for the church. Modesto was an intercessor and prayer warrior, spending countless hours praying for thousands of people over his life. He and his wife Ana will always be remembered for their selfless hospitality, hosting groups in their home and inviting countless families to their house for home-cooked meals and Christian fellowship.
Above all, Modesto loved spending time with his family. His children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren were his greatest investments of time. He and Ana were also known to be the ‘life of the party’ at family gatherings; he loved music and loved to dance, many times outlasting his younger family members.
In his younger years, Modesto was a boxer and an avid baseball player, he was a catcher and played ball into his sixties. However, he most enjoyed watching his children, grandchildren and great-children play baseball. He would often say, ‘I like baseball, but I love Jesus’, nothing came before his commitment to Christ, the gospel, and his desire to be Christ’s witness to all he encountered.
In addition to his parents, Modesto was preceded in death by his wife Ana (2020) and his brother Peter Ramirez (2020). Surviving are daughter Cindy Lesinski and husband Mike, Dallas, PA; son Michael Ramirez, Scranton, PA; son Marc Ramirez and wife Stephanie, Port Orange, FL ; daughter Lily Thomas and husband Andy, Dallas, PA.
