Greater Works Than These
“From the Inside Out” continues this Sunday
Why did Jesus ascend to the Father? Why didn’t Jesus stay on earth and help us fulfill the great commission? Did Jesus really say it is “better” for us that he leaves? How can that be true? Jesus left the earth for a reason; it was part of the Father’s plan. He actually told us that we would do even greater works than he did. What did that mean? How is it possible? Join us this Sunday as we dig into God’s Word for these answers and much more!
Sunday Scripture Reading
John 14:8-12 (ESV)
8 Philip said to him, “Lord, show us the Father, and it is enough for us.” 9 Jesus said to him, “Have I been with you so long, and you still do not know me, Philip? Whoever has seen me has seen the Father. How can you say, ‘Show us the Father’? 10 Do you not believe that I am in the Father and the Father is in me? The words that I say to you I do not speak on my own authority, but the Father who dwells in me does his works. 11 Believe me that I am in the Father and the Father is in me, or else believe on account of the works themselves.
12 “Truly, truly, I say to you, whoever believes in me will also do the works that I do; and greater works than these will he do, because I am going to the Father.
John 16:4-7 (ESV)
4 But I have said these things to you, that when their hour comes you may remember that I told them to you.
The Work of the Holy Spirit
“I did not say these things to you from the beginning, because I was with you. 5 But now I am going to him who sent me, and none of you asks me, ‘Where are you going?’ 6 But because I have said these things to you, sorrow has filled your heart. 7 Nevertheless, I tell you the truth: it is to your advantage that I go away, for if I do not go away, the Helper will not come to you. But if I go, I will send him to you.
